Get ready, the dozers are coming
The Committee would like to advise members of some exciting news:
Firstly, Peter Burns, has been appointed by Georges River Council as the new Hurstville Golf Course Superintendent. Many members already know Peter but if you do not, just check out the condition of our greens. This is Peters’ work! The Club wishes Peter every success and we will be supporting Peter where we can and as required.
Next, members will start to see activity in January on the Stage 1 works. We have meet with the contractor, Fleming Constructions, who are a very highly regarded Golf Course construction company. They understand golf and understand the need for working around golfers. However, there will be some disruptions and there will be rules around work areas for us to follow to remain safe and for workers to be safe.
Heavy work will start on January 11th, this will take out the 1st and 10th Greens. The match Committee will work on alternative layouts around the work and some temp greens will be required.
In March, the tee complex for 1st, 10th and the removal of the shelter will commence, along with the 18th green construction. Lastly in May the 6th hole reconstruction will commence and new ladies’ tees on 8th and 5th. This is the last phase of the work.
The club will keep members aware of changes as they are made to the layout.
Most Importantly, be mindful of safety around work areas. Fences will be placed around all work areas; they are there for your safety as well as the staff working on the improvements. If you hit a ball into work areas the Fleming team will assist if they can and throw your ball back however, under no circumstances are you to enter the work area to retrieve your ball. With earthmoving equipment in use, it is dangerous, and it is just a ball that can be replaced. Please stay away and stay safe.
Be patient over the next 6 months because the result will be a much-improved golf course layout.
Lastly, the club would like to thank Jarrod Harding, who is leaving the Pro-shop team on the 23rd December to return home to Young. We wish him all the success and he will be missed.
