Today (2 Feb 24) the committee received the following notice from Georges River Council to all HGC Members.
Council recognises that the condition of the greens at Hurstville Golf Course is not acceptable.
The tragic degradation of the greens is being thoroughly investigated, with a number of specialists engaged by Council, in testing water sources and soil testing to establish what has occurred to cause this rapid decline of the condition of the greens.
In the interim, potable water only is being utilised on the greens, that have shown some signs of recovery/regrowth, however this may not be the total solution. Hence the forensic approach to the situation.
The highest priority is being given to rectifying the immediate problem, and to ensure that processes are in place to prevent a re-occurrence of such a tragic event.
Council apologises to the members of Hurstville Golf Club and all users for the frustration and inconvenience caused, and to confirm that all that can possibly be done in these circumstances is being actioned.
There will be further updates as more information is available.
