Hurstville v Bondi at Bondi
At 7:30am on Sunday morning, while the rest of us were still in bed listening to the rain pelt down on the roof, the Warren and Gibson Teams were teeing off at Bondi Golf Course. Anybody who has played at Bondi will be aware that the course is not nestled down in a sheltered valley. No, Bondi Golf Course is on the headland in a direct line to the southerly winds from Antarctica.
Now that the scene has been set, we can all agree that any result in these conditions was a significant achievement. The highlight for the Warren Team was the 1up win by Roy Marshall and John Worthington with their match lasting all the way to the 18th hole. The other Warren pairs had far more common sense and wrapped their matches up much earlier.
The Gibson had no joy on the day, with manager Michael Andon reporting he had never seen more difficult conditions for golf. Michael went on to say that the Gibson team of George Efremidis, Tony O’Reilly, Jake May, Cameron Hardiman, Ian Edwards and Terry Pollock are all legends for braving the elements. Big shout-out to Cameron Hardiman for playing his first Gibson Pennants match. Hopefully, Cameron’s next outing will be a bit more pleasant.
