Hurstville Golf Club has reviewed our policy on allowing members to accrue prize money indefinitely.
When the club was established with 80 members, it was a simple solution to let members accrue their prize balance for an unlimited time. The club now has more than 1100 members, and this policy is no longer appropriate for a club of our size.
At the end of June 2025, the club had over $80,000 in unclaimed prize money. Some of this balance dates back to prior to 2017, when we moved to the current system. This money sits on the club’s balance sheet as a liability. Our auditors have highlighted this as a concern and have recommended that the club reduce this liability.
The General Committee have taken the difficult decision to stop accruing prizes indefinitely and to introduce an expiry process for unclaimed prizes.
What is changing?
All prizes not redeemed by 1 April 2026 will expire on 1 July 2026.
Following this, there will be an ongoing process where prizes that are allocated between 1 April to 31 March in the following year will expire on 1 July.
How will this work?
Currently, all the prize entries have an expiry date of 31/12/9999. After the implementation of the new policy, the expiry date on each prize transaction will be changed to the date 15 months after the end of the quarter when the prize was awarded.
The Expiry column in the Member Portal will show the new expiry date of individual prizes.

How Can I Stop My Prize Money from Expiring?
Spend it at the Pro Shop.
Prize money can be used to purchase equipment, clothing, shoes, food, drinks, lessons or cart hire. The staff at the proshop will order in items that you wish to purchase, and members receive a 10% discount on equipment and clothing.
Where will the Expired Prize Money Go?
The club would rather you spend your prize money; however, any funds collected from expired prize money will be allocated to the Course Improvement fund.
Other FAQs
On the Member Portal Dashboard, your accrued prize money appears as Loyalty Points. The number displayed is the $ value of your accrued prize money.
Click on the Loyalty Points tile on the dashboard to see a breakdown of all prizes awarded. Prizes that have not been redeemed show a 0 in the Redeemed column. Prizes that have been fully redeemed show a 0 in the balance column.
The Date column is the prize allocation date. You can use this to check if your unclaimed prize was awarded before 1 April 2025 and is subject to the first expiry date.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to make exceptions for special purchases. We recommend that you use your existing prize money as a deposit for a laybuy arrangement.
Yes, but this is limited. The club already has an expiry policy where any prizes allocated to visitors expire after 3 months.
