Hurstville 4 defeated Northbridge 3
The men’s Major Pennant team finished the season with a hard fought win at home vs Northbridge. They made it 3 wins from 3 contests at home this season with an away win thrown in which is usually enough to win the section. Alas they fell half a point short of Roseville and finished in 2nd position.
A solid 3&1 win by Mike West at #6 was the first point for Hurstville but after losing matches 4,6 and 7 things were looking a little concerning. We need not have worried as the top order really shone.
Captain Todd Shaw was remarkably bogey free and 3 under par when winning 4&3 at #3. #2 Shane Kearney stopped young gun Zach France 3&2. Zach is just 15 years old and had won 11/11 matches in Major Pennant round robin competition which shows how well Shane played. He was also under par. Last but not least, our #1 Peter Tunks sealed the deal with a 3&1 win playing some great shots when it could have gone either way.
So that’s the end of the season for Hurstville who would have qualified for the semis had Barnwell Park upset Roseville but it wasn’t to be.
