Hurstville 1 Lost to Woolooware 4
For the first time in a very long time Hurstville has a team participating in the Bronze 2 grade of the Southern Districts Ladies Pennants Competition. Bronze 2 is for players with handicaps between 25 to 38. The other clubs participating are Woolooware, The Coast, Cronulla, Marrickville, Kareela and Beverley Park.
The first round was played at Kareela on Friday where the Hurstville team faced Woolooware. Three of the five team members, Caroline Dimeo, Joanne Luke and Louise Warren were all playing their first pennant match, so there were probably some nerves on the first tee.
Field Captain Julie took on the tricky Kareela course and produced a strong 3&2 win. Gai took her match to the second last hole before going down 2&1. Gai is probably still coming back to earth after her spectacular Vietnam holiday. Joanne was competitive despite having never previously played pennants with a 3&2 loss.
Caroline, showing no first timer nerves, started strongly by wining the first two holes. At the turn, her opponent had fought back to be 1up and the match finished on the 16th hole with Caroline having a 3&2 loss. Louise was unlucky to lose on the difficult 18th hole. Those who know the Kareela layout will be familiar with the pain and anguish the last hole can cause.
RESULTS
| No 1. | Julie Moon | Win 3&2 |
| No 2 | Gai Rowan | Loss 2&1 |

| No. 4 | Caroline Dimeo | Lost 3&2 |

While not the win we would have liked, this is still a great result for the team with several players new to the format. Big thank you to Julie Moon who took some of the new team members out on the course for a bit of Pennants 101.
Next week the team travels to Woolooware where we face The Coast.
