Hurstville v Cronulla
This week was a replay of the Kareela Round 1 game, which was abandoned on account of heavy rain and unplayable greens on 6 July 2026. Our opponent is Cronulla GC, who are assured of winning Division 5, regardless of the outcome of this game.
Just a few words about Tony Webb, one of our long serving SSP stars through the years. Tony has served on many Pennant teams, including St Michaels, Cronulla and Hurstville, since he was a young man. At 83 years, he is as competitive as ever. Well yesterday, Tony was 3 down early and fought back to square on the 17th and moved to the 18th tee. He fired to the green and his opponent, Laurie Axford, missed the green on the right and rolled to the bottom of the hill. His chip came up short and he chipped on for 3. Tony calmly putted in for birdie, to win the hole and the match, 1up. The legend grew a little more. Tony, it has been a pleasure to have you in our team, thanks for your years of service to this great game.

This was our final game for the 2026 SSP season. The successful clubs, finishing 1st and 2nd in each Division, go on now to the SSP Final series.
Congratulations to our Team for the spirit in which they played the game and who represented the Hurstville Golf Club with distinction. There were some inspiring performances and indications are that everyone is looking forward to the 2027 SSP Season.
And finally, thanks to Vicki for publishing these reports on our web page.

Additional Note
There is an enormous amount of work that goes into captaining and managing a pennant team. Once again, Barry has excelled in his duties and made everything look seamless (notwithstanding some car dramas). Thank you Barry! You’re a legend.
