Hurstville Golf Club once again entered a team into the Southern Districts Bronze 1 Pennant competition this year.
This pennant division is for GA handicaps of 18+. Other teams in this Grade were Cronulla, Kareela, The Coast, Lakeside, Kogarah, Woolooware and Beverley Park.
Our team, led by Fay Zajakovski, consisted of
- Linda Rolfe,
- Dale Brickwood,
- Gai Rowan,
- Dot Williams,
- Pat Towns,
- Loretta Holland,
- Mary Williams,
- Ellen Tranby and
- Annie Ng.
HGC hosted the final day on 14th April in our new premises. Fay organised the golf and started the groups on the day. Our team combined to arrange the catering, setting up the function room, table decorations, providing home-made bakes for morning tea and deserts. The comments regarding our course, our new club room and the lunch were very complimentary from all players. It was a huge success.
Our team, although not winning the pennant, did convincingly beat Kogarah on the last day. The Kogarah girls won the 2023 pennant on a countback from Lakeside. As usual the games were played good spirits and displayed great sportsmanship and many friendships were made. Pennant (match play) golf is stimulating and fun.
It will all happen again in 2024, and we are hoping to enter a team in the Silver grade of pennants which is for players with handicaps of 10 + and is played off scratch.
Ladies’s pennants begin again in February, so anyone interested in playing in the Silver Grade please contact Fay Zajakovski on 0438 313 832 or leave your details at the Pro Shop.
