Hurstville v Muirfield
Round 2 of the Warren and Gibson Pennants was the return match against Muirfield. The Muirfield course was beautifully presented and the Chinese meal after the game was greatly appreciated.
Warren Team
The first team teeing off was the pairing of Mark Roberts and Perry Pericles, both making their first appearance for the season. The match was close for the first nine holes, but it slipped away for Perry and Mark in the second half, resulting in a 4&3 loss.
Playing at number two again, Matt Kumjew and Jake May produced another strong win. After losing the first two holes, the team recovered well and were leading by two at the turn. Jake and Matt dominated the rest of their match, no doubt receiving pearls of golfing wisdom from super caddy Gavin May, and took a comfortable 5&4 win.
The final Warren pairing was Tim Hooper and Joe Belinha. Unfortunately, Tim and Joe were unable to repeat their strong form from last week and were defeated by the locals 6&5.
Gibson Team
Muirfield returned the favour in the away game against the Hurstville team by wining two matches to one. Terry Pollock and Peter Wucherpfenning had an impressive 4 and 3 win, followed by two debutants, Chris Papac and Bruce Monahan, losing out at 4 and 2, not bad for a first-up effort, knowing how nervous they would have been.
Lastly, and by no means least, one of our strongest pairings, Michael Predkowski and Stephen Ireland, were unlucky to come up against a team that was on fire that day and came second with a score of 8 and 6.
Next game at home against Camden Lakeside, 2nd Aug Sunday is a must-win for us to stay in touch.
